Collaboration Rules

The L10NCafé has members from all over the world. Try to be aware of, and sensitive to, cultural differences as you collaborate with other members.

Be professional in your communications with other members.

Be positive and use facts to back up your positions.

Unacceptable Behavior

The following is deemed unacceptable use or behavior by members and users of the L10NCafé. The L10NCafé reserves the right to enact remedies up to and including the removal of member accounts of offending members at its own discretion:

Using the L10NCafé to run a business. For example, you should not use WorkSites to store information that is not related to globalization, internationalization, localization, or translation (GILT) collaboration; i.e., communication to employees, general business information, etc.
Adding, copying, linking to, or creating any material or content that contains obscene, hateful, pornographic or other illegal material.
Using the website to perpetrate any form of fraud, or software, film or music piracy.
Using the website to share offensive or harassing material with other users.
Using the website in any way that violates the rights of any third parties or breaks any laws.
Undertaking deliberate activities that waste effort of other users.
Introducing any form of computer virus or malware into the website.
Broadcasting unsolicited personal views on social, political, religious or other non-GILT related matters.
Conducting personal attacks on others like, but not limited to, the following:
Transmitting unsolicited commercial or advertising material.

L10NCafé Chat Room

Presently, this feature is provided via a free, external, offsite, third party service. There is no connection between the security system of the L10NCafé and this service. The L10NCafé is not responsible for the content of this feature. Though we make every effort to ensure privacy and block spam, the Chat Room is largely outside of our control. This has several implications:

Even though the L10NCafe Chat Room is password protected, passwords can be compromised. Therefore, you should consider the messages you enter to be publicly viewable by anyone on the internet.
It is possible that spam can enter the Chat Room; especially if the shared password is compromised. In some cases, the spam might be offensive. Our recourse will be to change the password and redistribute it to members.
Though we encourage members to use their real names in the Chat Room, we cannot enforce this. The third party service allows people to use whatever 'Nickname' they like. Therefore, you may not know for sure who you are talking to in the Chat Room and should proceed accordingly.
If someone offends you, you can Warn or Mute them. You can also contact us via the contact link in the footnotes of this Agreement.

Advertising

The L10NCafé discourages overt company, product, or service advertising except via sponsorship¹ and/or paid advertising and reserves the right to enact remedies up to and including the removal of member accounts of offending members at its own discretion.

You, and your company as applicable, promise not to use information on the site to target people for advertising without their consent. For example, you cannot blog about your company's products or services. However, there are three exceptions to this rule; areas where you may overtly mention your company:

Events - You may enter your company's events here; i.e., conferences, webinars, etc.
News - You may add news items related to changes in your company, new products and services, etc.
Wanted - We encourage you to use this list to advertise open positions at your company.

We encourage individual advertising; i.e., helping members become better known in the GILT (Globalization Internationalization Localization Translation) industry. This is accomplished through several features of the site:

Your Personal Information is visible to others and allows you the opportunity to share information about yourself including links to other sites including Facebook^*, LinkedIn^*, and MySpace^*.
You can add your resume and other personal information to the site wiki.
Some of your participation on the site will be tracked, rated, and shared to the community. For example, if you provide good answers to questions about a certain topic, this will be visible to the community who will come to know you as being knowledgeable in that area.
All of the above are indexed and searchable meaning others may find you as they perform ad hoc searches on items that relate to you.

Privacy Policy

This privacy policy sets out how the L10NCafé uses and protects any information that you provide the L10NCafé when you use this website. The L10NCafé is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

Generally, people using the L10NCafé collaborate as individuals but can also use features such as WorkSites to collaborate as groups, companies, etc. No one will know what company you work for unless you tell them, enter it in your personal information profile, or unless this information is in the public domain.

Other members will see the email address you use for your account including vendors, agencies, and other companies. If you feel your address is being used in ways contrary to this agreement; i.e., companies have targeted you for advertising without your consent, report it to the site owners who will take action up to and including the removal of the offending member's account.

The L10NCafé is a public facing site with membership restrictions. This means the following:

Anyone can browse the site's content. They don't need an account to see content; i.e., posts and items created by members. Besides the content itself, the public will be able to see who created or modified the content and when they did it. They will also be able to see pictures of members where they exist outside personal profiles aka User Information. They will not be able to see member personal profiles. If members place personal information elsewhere on the site, like in the Wiki, the public will be able to see that.
Only members with accounts can contribute to the site by adding, removing, and modifying posts, list items, etc.
Only members can edit their own personal profile and see the profiles of other members.

The paragraph above means any content you add to the site will be viewable by anyone who visits L10NCafé.com; even if they do not have an account. This also means your name and picture may appear in trainings pertaining to the site. These trainings are posted on other public sites like YouTube.com.

We are in compliance with the requirements of COPPA (Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act), we do not collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age. Our website, products and services are all directed to people who are at least 13 years old or older.
